Thank
you for your interest in Herb Wise Farms
We
will soon have our organic certification and we have just built a chicken
coop, a composting outhouse, a green house and a meditation room. This
season was dedicated to completing out-buildings, developing the vegetable
garden and orchard and nurturing our forest.
We practice permaculture and use environmentally friendly building practices
whenever possible. We are not on a bus route, but there is a mountain
bike available for your use. We are centrally located and 5-10 minutes
away from towns such as Chemainus,
Duncan
and Ladysmith.
The Cowichan (a First
Nations' wording meaning "The Warm Land") Valley is an
outdoor playground with many activities including the Chemainus River
down the street and the nearby ocean.
At Herb Wise Farms you will experience Mother Nature and West Coast
flora and fauna at their finest, including learning the beautiful songs
of the local birds. You'll feel joy as you listen to the sound of rushing
water: our creek has two swimming holes separated by a mini waterfall.
Our 6.5 hectare (16 acres) farm is mostly old growth forest, exhilarating
to explore, along with the surrounding valley, with a comprehensive
network of trails for hiking and biking.
We are omnivores who enjoy a few beers around the camp fire after dinner.
For leisure, depending on the weather, we will take you kayaking, swimming,
watertubing and camping. As the cliché goes, "All work and
no play makes Jack a dull boy!"
We would love you to come help us. We will welcome you and do everything
we can to make your stay enjoyable. Right now the cabin is not insulated
and there is no heat (the existing farm house is too small to host additional
guests). However, it is a priority on our list of current projects,
along with a new power line for heat etc. Meanwhile, you are welcome
to use our laundry facilities and computer. You will need to be self-sufficient
and accustomed to cool, wet weather and work well on your own at times.
Other current projects include completing Scott's workshop, renovations
to the garage and the expansion of the vegetable garden. We have only
been on the farm since the end of April 2008 and have accomplished so
much!!
We
look forward to hearing from you.
